This press kit includes a variety of content from the American Bankers Association regarding the safety and soundness of America's banks. The vast majority of America's banks are highly capitalized, with a $1.3 trillion cushion against possible losses. Effective with legislation enacted October 3, 2008 through December 31, 2009, bank deposits are FDIC-insured for $250,000 (see link titled "New FDIC Deposit Insurance Coverage Limits"). The current crisis should force needed reforms on mortgage bankers and Wall Street.
